HERE’S HOW MILLENIALS ARE CHANGING THE WEDDING TRADITIONS

Lhia Ubaldo | July 31, 2020

Weddings are now getting a generational face-lift, Millenials changing Wedding Traditions.

Weddings – it’s once celebrated in simpler times with simple people. But now, weddings are getting a generational face-lift. The reason? It’s too many! But one thing’s certain though, this generation could not be more extra.

To give you a background on what we’re talking about, what are the types of generations? What are the things that separate the Boomers to the Millennials?

If you must know, there are a certain generation that we call ‘Baby Boomers’. They are born in the years: 1944 to 1964. They are 56 to 76 year old by now. Our lolas and lolos fall in this category.

Baby boomers are the biggest consumers of traditional media like television, radio, magazines, and newspaper. Despite being so traditional, 90% of baby boomers have Facebook accounts (source: KASASA). This generation has begun to adopt more technology in order to stay in touch with family members and reconnect with old friends.

Then there’s the ‘Generation X’. Born in the years: 1965 to 1979. Currently 41 to 55 years old by this time. I’d say these are the years our parents were born (if you are a Generation Y). This generation still reads newspapers, magazines, listens to the radio, and watches TV (and they’re still traditional). However, they are also digitally savvy and spend roughly 7 hours (source: KASASA) a week on social media, mainly Facebook.

While we see pictures of our grandparents and parents’ wedding, we see simple venues, simple cakes, simple clothes and simple celebrations. Nothing out of the ordinary.

But now, let’s talk about being part of the millennial generation. Times have changed (inevitably anyway), and more and more young generations are tying the knot with their young friends as witnesses to their special day.

And it turns out the younger generation actually does have a very different approach to planning and attending weddings than their Baby Boomer and Generation X counterparts, and now let’s see how Millenials are changing Wedding Traditions.

Here are some few things you need to know about millennial wedding trends:

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE

Millennials are all about the experience. Millennial couples are focusing on creating an aesthetic—through food, drinks, entertainment, whatever—that they as a group love and want to share with their friends and as a couple.

Your millennial attendees are most excited about dressing up, dancing, and visiting a new place. They’re also paying way more attention to décor than Gen X-ers. But what they’re not about is the specifics of your escort cards and ceremony readings.

Tip: Thinking about what people are looking forward to and paying attention to can help you and your partner figure out where you should put your efforts in. Spend your time and money on what you’re really excited about and also things that your guests are really excited about for your big day!

FOOD IS LIFE BUT GOOD FOOD IS LIFE-R

You’d be surprised that over the years, food was just another thing in weddings. But now, couples focus in making the food great. Guests are looking forward to what surprising thing the food is going to be, and couples really want something different and really good.

Tip: If you want aesthetically pleasing food presentation for your reception, you might want to also consider getting a grazing table, trust us, your guests will love it!

WEDDING HASHTAGS

If you only realized just now that social media is a big part of any millennial weddings this time, then you’re missing out! Seriously, who among your friends does not have a hashtag for his or her wedding? It’s a revolutionary element of a millennial wedding that was instantly adopted worldwide by all couples. It gives every wedding a unique identity and it seals your social media posts about a wedding too. What’s funny is that we barely even know who first used a wedding hashtag!

NAKED CAKE

Let’s see… Once upon a time, if a wedding cake is tall, white with the most number of layers, then its considered the ultimate cake for a wedding. Back in the days that is. Not in a millennial wedding. These days, millennial couples are gravitating towards simpler, more natural-looking, yet dramatic naked cakes with only one or two layers. What’s great about naked cakes is that they go well with all wedding themes. A beach wedding or a garden wedding, you know you can design a naked cake to perfectly fit in.

NATURE-THEMED WEDDINGS

Millennial weddings look different, you’d know that by now, right? Fewer couples opt for non-traditional locations and spaces. In fact, less than half of millennials participated in the majority of so-called wedding traditions on their big days.

Another prevailing theme in weddings these days is nature. Nature-themed wedding is a huge percentage of brides seem to love! Millennials just can’t get enough of greeneries in their wedding ceremony and reception.

And today, it’s safe to say that it’s still risky to have social gatherings in enclosed spaces. With a wide open space, unwanted elements can be easily blown away.

Weddings today should be kept significant but still safe. Jardin de Miramar offers 8 different garden venues of your choice. Each beautifully themed to suit your style!

INTIMATE CELEBRATION

Lastly, more and more couples are starting to be picky about their wedding guests—not just because they don’t like them, but because we have protocols for social gatherings these days. Jardin de Miramar has even create a wedding package which enables you to have your private wedding of 10 get’s broadcasted to 90 more people. Thru it’s streaming package Virtually, Jardin!
