CIVIL CEREMONY NOW AND A TRADITIONAL WEDDING LATER

Some people have dreamt of their perfect wedding day. They might have even planned it out while they were young. The flowers should be pretty, the cake should be 5-tiered, the gown must be designed by a certain designer, and guests should be important people. And then there are also people that believe that they shouldn’t fuss on spending an unbelievable amount of money and time on a wedding. They like being practical and consider their actual budget. But they do have visions of white dresses, cakes and all their friends present. So they opt to go with a civil ceremony.

WHAT IS A CIVIL CEREMONY ANYWAY?

A civil ceremony is simply one where the marriage ceremony has a government or civil official performing the ceremony. It takes place without any religious affiliation and meets the legal requirements of the state or location of the wedding.

Compared to a traditional wedding that involves a big number of guests, it’s smaller in size but it doesn’t mean it’s any less important. Civil ceremony tends to be a more relaxed gathering, where the couple can dress as they wish as well as set the ceremony to be as short or long as desired. Couples have the flexibility to include meaningful acts or gestures in the program rather than prescribed copy.

WHY CIVIL WEDDING CEREMONY IS A SMART AND PRACTICAL MOVE (FOR NOW)

Unlike the ton of pressure and stress you will experience in planning a traditional wedding, believe it or not, a civil wedding ceremony can be organised in as little as a month. However, as with any celebration, it’s best to book your chosen venue as early as possible to avoid disappointment. And on the practical side, let’s say you’re saving up for something grand. Maybe, your parent’s silver wedding anniversary, or you just had a car loan. You’re running out of time because your sister and other family members are immigrating to another country and you only have this time to get married so your family can be present. Or, you and your partner simply just want to tie the knot… You know this is the right approach for you and your partner.

There are no requirements as to where a civil ceremony wedding must take place, it can be a hall, a venue or even a garden. As long as the bride, groom, and officiant can get there, the location is legally binding. This flexibility allows the wedding party to plan the ceremony in a park, backyard, or any unusual location, in our case we suggest to choose Jardin de Miramar.

With a civil wedding ceremony, you can get married and still prioritize the important and urgent things you need to do in your life. And then, you can always proceed in a traditional wedding after you’ve settled everything.

FAST FORWARDING TO YOUR *ACTUAL* WEDDING DAY

So let’s continue where you’ve left off: You and your partner decided that the most practical and smart move was to exchange vows with only 2-10 guests with you in the city hall. By the time you will both officially and properly say ‘I do’ in front of your 50 – 70 packs of guests, your beautifully picked venue and in your stunning wedding gown, guess what? You’re already legally married but that doesn’t mean it’s not as special as the first time you guys did it!

Marriage is a very sacred and beautiful thing to happen in your life. And wherever and in whatever way you and your partner do your wedding ceremony, your love and commitment for each other will be the only thing that will matter. Not the place, not the people.
