When You Need to Postpone a Wedding

Preparing for problems is one thing. Sometimes, you can just ride through them and still have a great time. It’s really having family and friends share in a big moment that makes it important.

But at times, things really fall through, and the couple will need to postpone the wedding. Something happens, an important person (such as one of the couple) falls sick, the venue is suddenly damaged by a storm, a family problem arises that jeopardizes the wedding, and more. When you call it off, it’s not just a sad thing, there are things you will need to handle.

One thing you should have done before the wedding is discuss the possibility of postponing or canceling with your wedding planner and service providers. If it does happen, they will mention how much they are willing to refund, if at all, and in case you can reschedule, what are the terms. Postponing or even canceling is certainly a disappointment for people who have prepared for it, and that includes your service providers.

1. One thing you should have done before the wedding is discuss the possibility of postponing or canceling with your wedding planner and service providers. Postponing or even canceling is certainly a disappointment for people who have prepared for it, and that includes your service providers.

 

 2. If you ordered a dress and can’t return it, you can sell it, but talk it over with your dress provider to know what to do. If the dress is rented, then that’s easy, you only need to return it. Same for rented suits for men and other apparel.

3.When postponing does happen, make sure to let all your guests know as soon as possible. If your guests are supposed to travel, better save them the trip. Some go as far as to send apology notes to the guests to inform them of the postponement or cancellation.

 

4. In the Philippine setting, family, close relatives and close friends are sure to be among the first to know. Perhaps the couple have already been talking with any member of these groups about their postponement, and have been getting advice about it. If you are the relatives, it’s always best to reserve judgment and give support. If there are any family heirlooms, such as an engagement ring, they should be returned for the moment.

 5. If you have been sent gifts, it is good etiquette to return them, unless the givers have decided to let it go. When you do return them, make sure to send a thank you note.

 

 6. If you’re still set to marry, plan the next date well, so in case you know what might postpone your wedding, you could avoid those things more easily.
