PLUS SIZE WEDDING DRESSES FOR THE SHORT & PRETTY BRIDE THAT YOU ARE
Lhia Ubaldo | June 4, 2020
Your wedding dress should be as unique and special as your magical wedding day.
Beautiful brides come in all shapes. Every woman’s dream is to look her best on her wedding day. Most women spend months looking for the perfect wedding gown. But what if you wear over the large size or is curvy and overweight? The task for finding the perfect dress may be a bit of a challenge.
You look at wedding magazines and at bridal shops and you see these beautifully made wedding dresses clothed in slim mannequins or models. But what about some ‘real shape’ brides?
But with all the hassle of buying a wedding gown, some brides forget that it’s best to choose a dress that flatters you, not the one you think is popular or the latest trend. We want to tell you today to look at yourself in front of a mirror at every angle; don’t pick a strapless gown made for a girl with zero body fat just because your favourite influencer is wearing it – you are amazing, just the way you are! Do not be swayed by ‘fashion’. Find a gown that makes you feel beautiful regardless the style. Be the bride everyone will remember for her beauty!
Surely, not everyone fits in the same size, let’s say size ‘S’ and surely not all brides feel like starving themselves before their big day. So what to do? Where to look? Here are some few tips for finding the right dress for short and fluffy (yes, we call it fluffy because it’s cuter when it’s said! LOL) brides.
START LOOKING FOR GOWNS AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE
You should start looking as early as possible. The more time you have, the less stressed you’re going to be.
CHECK A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER’S PORTFOLIO
Photographers have an eye for aesthetic. They aren’t photographers for nothing! And looking at their portfolio will help you see real brides of all shapes with all types of dresses so you can have a better idea of what would suit your shape! Plus we think asking your photographer for his/her opinion regarding the selection. They can tell you if your choice will flatter you. They’ll be honest with you because they’ll be shooting you in situations where you aren’t posed perfectly. They’ll know if the dress tends to emphasize areas you don’t want to show.
DO NOT BUY A DRESS IN THE HOPE THAT YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT
As this will only stress you out and ruin the fun of preparing for your wedding dress. Remember that your wedding is not a race to lose weight. It is to be enjoyed regardless of how much you weigh.
DON’T FORGET TO BUY YOUR CORSET
Corsets are a woman’s tightly fitting undergarment extending from below the chest to the hips, worn to shape her figure. And let’s admit it, each woman owns one and it saved them from countless fashion emergencies. But if you are not used to wearing a corset, then shrinking your waist two inches is acceptable but squeezing yourself to make your waist six inches smaller can end up with you bruising or even fainting during the wedding ceremony.
MAKE SURE YOU ARE COMFORTABLE IN YOUR WEDDING GOWN
When you try on a wedding gown, don’t just stand and look in the mirror but also sit down in it to check that it is comfortable and does not bulge in an unsightly way. Can you move properly? Can you dance with your dress? Does it look nice from the back?
BE MORE CREATIVE AND TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT
Informal wedding dresses look wonderful on plus-size women. They are simpler in style, fabric and detail than traditional gowns. They are perfect for garden and beach weddings, although they can also be worn for more formal ceremonies as well.
Don’t worry, this blog isn’t over just yet! Now we move on how to deal with your problem areas. Be honest with yourself, and embrace your body shape rather than hiding it. Know your best areas and work around them. Here are some ways to enhance your best features and distract from others.
If you have thick, chubby arms, or your arms are saggy, it is preferable to choose a dress with sleeves. If you don’t want to wear long sleeves or if you are getting married in the height of summer and want to wear a sleeveless dress, the best option is to wear a cover up over your arms. Avoid spaghetti straps. A strapless dress or a thick-strapped dress is much better to disguise thick arms.
Wedding gowns that are simple, without a lot of frills, decorations and extra fluff, on the top area, are often good choices.
