Here is the A-Z of wedding terminology every couple should know! Ever sat down with one of your wedding suppliers and wondered what term he / she talked about? Weddings have a language of their own. You, lovebug, should be in the know of all the wedding terminologies you will encounter when planning your special day.

A –LTAR

In the Philippines, the traditional ceremony consists of a priest giving his blessing to the bride and groom. The priest performs the rites in front of an altar with an image of the crucifix. The couple declare their love in front of the altar or in front of God, as if sealing their partnership.

B-OUQUET

This is the most popular wedding term for brides as it holds the same weight as the wedding gown. Bouquets mirror the personality of the bride and can even determine the next bride in the “throw the bouquet” game. What can we say, Filipinos love a good superstitious belief.

C-ORONA BRIDE / GROOM

This term refers to couples who had gone through their wedding last March 2020 onwards despite the threat of the virus. Being a CORONA bride or groom is unprecedented and is definitely one for the books.

D-ESTINATION WEDDING

Having a destination wedding means staying in a picturesque location usually out of town for several days to celebrate your union. Destination weddings are popular all over the country as we have quite a number of scenic spots in the North, South, East and West. This doubles as a honeymoon getaway for the couple.

K-NOT

Tie the knot is a figure of speech that means to wed. A knot is usually a symbolism that partners will now endure life together as one.

L-IVE STREAMED WEDDING

A live streamed wedding gained traction this 2020. This means going live on a particular streaming application for guests to view. This is a very helpful function for guests that cannot physically go to the wedding.

Q-UEEN ANNE NECKLINE

R- SVP

Répondez, s’il vous plaît. This is what the RSVP wedding terminology means. It translates to: respond if you please. Now, this is a very important detail to the wedding. If you are a guest, return the gratitude from being invited to their most special day by actually confirming your presence. This helps the couple in their headcount for the catering service, seating arrangements and other important wedding elements.


S-OCIALLY DISTANT WEDDING

Another wedding terminology that just gained traction in 2020. What does it mean to be socially distant? In the Philippines, the requirement is at least 1 meter in distance from each other. Not to mention the face masks that guests should be wearing when talking and mingling (unavoidable!) at the wedding. Which leads us to the the next wedding terminology.

T-ABLESCAPE

U-SHERS

Ushers are people who help guests find their seats at the wedding. Nowadays, ushers may enforce the social distancing and overall assist in the success of the physical wedding event with the safety measures in mind.

V-IRTUAL WEDDING

A virtual wedding may also mean a live streamed wedding. A couple can host their special day in an online video room or in a venue that facilitates your event via Zoom. This is the perfect way to minimize resources and still stay within the boundaries of a safe and fun wedding!

W-IFELORETTE
